About the Author: Andrew Keith Slayton

A first-time author who, after living in many cities, now calls New England his home, Andrew Keith Slayton's journey is as eclectic as it is inspiring. Born in the Bronx and raised in the suburbs, Slayton fell in love as a young teen with the art, fashion, and music scenes in New York City during the 1970s. This prompted him to spend extensive amounts of time there, endlessly commuting back and forth by train. Making the rounds to the many art museums and funky clothing stores by day, he'd hang out even longer to dine some place cheap, then go and see one of his favourite musical acts by night.

Completely enamoured by Manhattan and entrenched in all of its cultural offerings, he decided once out of high school, he'd attend art college at the Fashion Institute of Technology located in midtown. It was there that Slayton discovered pointillism, a technique of drawing with dots that he began experimenting heavily with using pen and ink. Eventually, his extensive portfolio of celebrity drawings made their way onto silk-screened t-shirts when he started his own Pop Art Fashion business in 1982, his main artistic venue.

Forced to close up shop after 9/11, he travelled extensively and while doing so, decided to try his hand at poetry. He completed a series of poems about seven one-of-a-kind exotic animals, each of them representing the seven continents, which eventually became the basis for some of the main characters in his first novel, Somewhere Over the Rainforest.
